Stormy Weathered

How did you all make out after Irene? I am happy to report that we suffered nothing more than slightly bored and stir-crazy children. Well, that, and the achy joints Mr. Forty-two Roads and I sustained after I insisted that the tornado warnings meant we had to all sleep downstairs on full-size the blowup mattress (translation: the kids slept on it while we tried to doze around them... that thing is definitely too small to sleep four). We didn't even lose power. I had to resort to showing the kids online pics of submerged cars to show what a hurricane could theoretically have done to explain what all the fuss was about.

And now, it's back to the old routine. Phew and yay all around.

As we walked around the city surveying the hurricane damage, we managed to annoy Lara into the following conversation:

L: If you do that one more time, I'm going to call someone to take me into a different family!
A: (trying really hard not to laugh) Really? What family would you go to?
L: I'd go to a family in China.
A: But you don't speak Chinese.
L: I'd learn it - they'd teach me.
A: But daddy and I would be so sad if you weren't with us... We'd miss you!
L: (thinks about this for a couple of seconds) Oh, I was just joking.

Hilarious--the last part. Irene didn't cause much damage for us either-- if you don't count the loss of sleep in anticipation of power loss, trees falling, etc. Not complaining--we'll take it.

The above comment wasn't sent anonymously: it's your reader pal 'WYSIWYG'! Hi! I just messed up the sign-in. Could I blame it on lack of sleep from Irene, or is that stretching it a bit much? :-)
